Give each player 7 cards. Put the rest face down as the draw pile, then flip one card to start the discard pile.
Play one card that matches the top discard by color, number, or symbol. A Wild also works.
No match? Draw one card. If that new card is playable, you may play it immediately. Otherwise, your turn ends.
Play your second-to-last card and say “UNO!” If someone catches you before the next turn begins, draw 2 cards.
Try a turn

The rule everyone remembers
You must call “UNO” when you play your next-to-last card. If another player catches you before the next player begins their turn, you draw 2 cards.
03 / Settle the argument
Officially, the next player draws the stated cards and loses their turn. They do not pass the penalty onward.
You may draw even if you have a playable card. After drawing, you may play only the card you just drew.
The official rule says draw one card only. If it cannot be played, the turn moves on.
Classic play follows turn order. “Jump-in” is a popular variation, not part of the core rules.
04 / Win the game
When someone empties their hand, the round ends. They score every card still held by their opponents.
